The HSC mark structure is more intricate than the SSC one, because a subject’s marks divide across two papers and, where there is a practical, across a third part. So "how many marks in this subject" has a structure rather than a number for an answer.

How the marks divide

The actual marks on each part differ by subject and are fixed by board instruction. This page asserts no specific figure — the numbers change between cohorts while the structure does not.

The practical is the most neglected part

Practical marks come from three places — the work done on the day, the year’s practical notebook, and a viva. The notebook is entirely within your control, and keeping it current makes those marks near certain. Yet every year many students sit down to write the whole notebook in the last week and lose easy marks to the rush.

Knowing the split changes the plan

The multiple-choice part draws on the whole syllabus, so it requires reading the book end to end; the creative part needs depth rather than breadth. Knowing the ratio between them tells you how much of the book must be read at least once, and how many chapters need to be gone into deeply.
