The HSC syllabus is larger and deeper than the SSC one, and its principal difference is that it does two jobs at once — it is the basis of the board exam and the basis of the university admission tests.
What the two-paper split means
Nearly every subject splits into a 1st and a 2nd paper, and the two syllabi are built from entirely different chapters. In practice that means doing well in a subject is mastering two separate books, and the two are often not equally hard. Taking the harder paper first and giving it more time is the rational plan.

The link to admission tests
University admission questions come largely from the HSC syllabus, and there is no shortened-syllabus concession there — admission tests generally assume the full curriculum. Reading only what the board exam requires is therefore a short-term strategy whose cost arrives a few months later at the admission test.

- The syllabus published by the curriculum and textbook board.
- Your own board’s notice for any change in that cycle.
- The written instruction sent to the college, held by the subject teacher.
- Not a coaching handout — those are frequently from an earlier cohort.
