Class 5 is the last year of primary, and this book’s job is less to teach anything new than to settle the abilities of the previous four years, so that in class 6 the language stops being an obstacle.

How to help at home
- Let them read storybooks beyond the textbook.
- Ask for one short composition a week.
- Have them collect their own spelling errors in a notebook.
- Do not let the habit of reading aloud lapse.
Reading beyond the textbook
What pays most this year is reading outside the textbook. Storybooks, a children’s magazine, even the easy parts of a newspaper — whatever it is, outside reading raises both vocabulary and reading speed, and those two matter most in class 6. A textbook is enough for the exam but not for the language.
