Collecting HSC documents is more urgent than at SSC, because university applications open before the papers are in your hand and nearly every application asks for them.
Which paper is needed when
| Document | When it is needed |
|---|---|
| The online marksheet | At application time, immediately |
| Original certificate and marksheet | At final admission |
| Testimonial | On leaving college and at admission |
| Transcript | For applications abroad |
| Registration card | For identity verification |
What is enough at application time
At application time the online marksheet or result statement is normally enough — there is no need to wait for the original certificate, and every year some candidates miss a deadline doing exactly that. The originals are needed at the final admission stage, which comes later.
Collecting the originals
The original certificate and marksheet go from the board to the college and are collected there. The testimonial is issued by the college and usually forms part of leaving formalities. A transcript is applied for separately through the board’s process — it takes time, so start early if you are planning applications abroad.
Keeping them, and a caution
- A university may retain originals at final admission — copy them beforehand.
- Keep a scan of each document somewhere safe.
- Check that name and date of birth match the SSC certificate.
- Report any discrepancy to the board through the college promptly.
The processes and required documents are set by board and college instruction; confirm from there.
