Number systems and logic gates
This is the one part of ICT where reading is not enough — it has to be worked by hand. Decimal to binary, binary to hexadecimal, and the truth tables of logic gates: doing each ten times yourself saves minutes in the hall and drops the error rate close to zero. Because the question shapes repeat closely, working past papers is the most effective preparation here.
The programming and database parts
The programming part does not need expertise — understanding the basic constructs and being able to explain the steps of a small program is enough. The same holds for databases: tables, fields and relationships are grasped by drawing them. In both, writing it out yourself beats memorising code or queries, because writing is what exposes the gap.
