In class 1 the aim of English is acquaintance, not grammar. That the child gets used to hearing and saying the words, and learns to recognise the letters — that is enough for this year.
What is expected this year
The book rests on pictures, rhymes and short words, because a language is learned through the ear before the eye. If the child can hear and say the words, the writing follows — it does not work the other way round. So time spent listening and repeating pays far better this year than pressure to write.

How to help at home
- Read the rhymes aloud together.
- Point at a picture, say the English word, then let the child say it.
- Two or three new words a day is enough.
- Do not scold a mispronunciation — repeated hearing corrects it.
Worrying about pronunciation
Many guardians feel awkward about their own English pronunciation and hold back from reading with the child. But at this age the child is learning ease with a language rather than perfect pronunciation, and teaching ease does not require perfection. Start with whatever you have; school and later sources will refine the pronunciation.
