CV Format for Job Application in Bangladesh

The order of sections in a CV, what belongs in each, and a complete model.

A CV runs in a fixed order: name and contact details, career objective, academic qualifications newest first, experience, skills, personal details, and references. Everything is factual and in note form rather than in sentences, and the whole document should fit one or two pages.

The format

The order of sections

A CV is read by someone scanning quickly, so its order is fixed by convention rather than by preference. Deviating from it makes a document that is harder to read, and in an exam it loses the structure mark.

The standard order

#SectionWhat goes in it
1Name and contactfull name, address, phone, email
2Career objectiveone or two sentences
3Academic qualificationsnewest first, with board/university, year and result
4Experience or trainingnewest first; omit if none and move skills up
5Computer and language skillsin note form
6Extra-curricular activitiesbrief, only if relevant
7Personal detailsfather’s name, date of birth, nationality, religion, marital status
8Referencestwo, with designation and contact

Notes, not sentences

A CV is a document of facts in note form. Full sentences belong in the covering letter, not here. Writing "I passed my HSC examination from Dhaka College in 2025 with a GPA of 4.83" where the CV wants a tabulated line is the commonest register error in this question.

  • HSC, Science, Dhaka College, Dhaka Board, 2025, GPA 4.83
  • I completed my HSC from Dhaka College in 2025 and obtained GPA 4.83.
  • No I, no my, anywhere in the CV.
  • Use consistent punctuation between fields — commas throughout, or dashes throughout.

Newest first

Academic qualifications and experience are both listed in reverse chronological order — the most recent at the top. A reader wants to know where you are now before knowing where you started, and listing from SSC upwards is a genuine error rather than a stylistic choice.

Personal details and references

Bangladeshi employers still expect a personal details block, which is unusual internationally. Include father's name, date of birth, nationality, religion and marital status. References are normally two, each with a name, designation, institution and contact.

  • 🚨 In an exam, invent every detail. Never write your own address, phone number or email.
  • Give referees a designation, not just a name.
  • Do not write “References available on request” where the question asks for a CV — supply them.

Every detail above is fictional and written for illustration. In an exam, invent your own in the same way — a CV answer must never carry your real address, phone number or email.

What earns and loses marks

  • 🚨 Notes, not sentences. A CV with “I” in it has slipped into covering-letter register.
  • List qualifications newest first, always.
  • Keep the whole document to one or two pages’ worth of material; a CV is not a biography.
  • Give the board or university with each qualification — a result without its board is incomplete in Bangladesh.
  • Invent every personal detail in an exam answer.

Mistakes to avoid

  • I passed my SSC in 2023 and then my HSC in 2025. HSC, Science, Dhaka College, Dhaka Board, 2025, GPA 4.83notes, and newest first
  • References available on request. two named referees with designations and contactswhen a CV is asked for, supply them
