Knowing the structure of an exam is not the same as knowing its mark distribution. Marks can change between cohorts, but what kinds of part a paper is made of, and what each part assesses, has been stable for years — and two years out, that is the useful knowledge.
The parts of a paper
| Part | What it assesses | How you prepare for it |
|---|---|---|
| Creative | Applying and explaining a concept | Depth in fewer chapters |
| Multiple choice | Recall across the whole book | Broad reading, repeated |
| Practical | Hands-on work and the notebook | Steadily, all year |
What a creative question actually wants
A creative question gives a stimulus and asks in tiers — the lower tiers for direct information, the upper for applying it to analyse or evaluate. Memorising will not carry the upper tiers, while understanding the concept delivers the lower ones for free. That is why study built on understanding pays better here than study built on recall.
The multiple-choice part asks for something else
Multiple-choice questions come from the whole book, so they need breadth rather than depth — including chapters unlikely to appear in the creative part. Across two years that means reading every chapter through at least once is compulsory, and splitting that work across classes 9 and 10 takes a great deal of pressure off the final six months.
How the practical is combined
In a subject with a practical, the final result combines the theory and practical parts. Practical marks come from the work done on the day and from the year’s notebook, and the notebook is entirely within your control — kept up, it is close to guaranteed. Building the habit from class 9 means it never needs thinking about in class 10.
The actual marks on each part are set by board instruction and can change between cohorts; nothing has been published for the 2028 cohort.

Frequently asked questions
Partly at the lower tiers, not at the upper ones, where you must apply the concept to analyse. Study built on understanding pays better.
Yes, at least once through. The questions come from the whole book, so there is no substitute for breadth — split the work across the two years.
From class 9, straight after each piece of work. Kept current it is close to guaranteed marks, and it stops being a worry in class 10.
