The English section of job exams circles a fixed set of areas, yet most candidates practise at random. Working area by area produces much faster improvement for the same effort.
The areas that keep returning
| Area | The key point |
|---|---|
| Right form of verb | Match tense and subject |
| Preposition | Fixed pairs, not rules |
| Voice and narration | Follow the fixed steps |
| Correction | The familiar error patterns |
| Synonym and antonym | Recognise roots and prefixes |
| Idioms and phrases | Meaning with use |
| Translation | The difference in sentence order |
How to drill
Take one area, condense its rules onto a single page, then work at least fifty questions before moving on. Random practice feels like progress while leaving no area actually mastered. Working area by area, each step ends with something genuinely in hand, and that confidence makes the next one easier.
Building vocabulary as a habit
- Put every new word into a sentence of your own.
- Note one synonym and one antonym beside it.
- Learn roots and affixes — they let you read unfamiliar words.
- A few a day, every day — swallowing lists achieves nothing.
Handling the translation part
The commonest mistake translating from Bangla is swapping word for word, because the two languages build sentences differently. Bangla puts the verb at the end; English puts it after the subject. Grasp the meaning of the whole Bangla sentence first, then write it afresh in natural English order — sentences written that way come out far more correct.
