One institution sits at the centre of Rangpur’s college landscape — Carmichael College, among the largest in the country by campus and by student numbers. When a city has an institution that size, the arithmetic of admission changes.
It is worth understanding how. A large intake makes a place there relatively more attainable, but that is exactly why the whole region’s applications converge on it. The result is that most students write the same name at the top of the list, and the second tier stays comparatively open.
Rangpur is a divisional city and the administrative centre of the north, so students come from every district around it. The city has government colleges, women’s colleges, cantonment and police-lines institutions — options of every kind. They just sit in the shadow of one name.

How to use this list
Doing what everyone does gets you what everyone gets. Putting Carmichael first is reasonable, but if you fill the nine places behind it carelessly, you are left with nothing when it does not come through. Choices two to ten deserve just as much thought as the first.
The city’s second-tier colleges are unusually uncontested here, because attention is concentrated elsewhere. With a middling result, getting into a good government college inside the city is more realistic in Rangpur than in many divisional cities — use that.
If you are coming from another district in the division, work out the distance with winter in mind. Morning fog here regularly delays road and rail schedules, and on a morning shift that becomes a daily problem.

The 2026-27 admission policy was published on 24 August 2026, and applications open on 2 September 2026. A warning: many websites are still republishing last year's (2025-26) schedule as "2026-27" with only the year changed — those pages show applications opening in July, which is wrong for this cycle. Check the original notice on xiclassadmission.gov.bd before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
The large intake makes the odds relatively good, but this is also where the most applications land. Treating it as certain and neglecting the rest of your list is risky — a big intake is not a guarantee.
The Dinajpur Education Board. Rangpur is a divisional city but there is no education board of that name, so notices and results come from the Dinajpur board’s site.
The city has several government colleges, the main government college for girls, cantonment and police-lines institutions and a number of private colleges. Some of them are much less contested, so listing them gives you something to fall back on.
Plenty of students commute from the nearer upazilas, but you have to account for both the shift and the season. Fog delays are routine in winter, and on a morning shift that is worth thinking about before you enrol.
