Alim, vocational HSC and diploma — who each suits and where to apply.

Madrasah and Technical Board Admission — Separate Routes, Separate Portals

বাংলায় পড়তে চাও? দেখো: মাদ্রাসা ও কারিগরি বোর্ডে ভর্তি — আলাদা পথ, আলাদা পোর্টাল

Class XI is often taken to mean a general-board college, but after SSC or its equivalent there are three distinct streams at higher-secondary level: general, madrasah and technical.

All three lead to a certificate accepted for higher education, but the process, the portal and the timetable differ. One stream’s rules do not carry over to another, and that single misunderstanding costs students their application window every year.

The three streams side by side

StreamWhat you studyCertificate
General (college)Science, humanities or business studiesHSC
MadrasahGeneral subjects alongside religious and Arabic studiesAlim
TechnicalTechnical and vocational trades, with hands-on workVocational HSC or a diploma

Alim and general HSC both count as equivalents for university admission. The diploma route is different: it leads into specific engineering and technology degree pathways.

Where each stream’s application is filed

Each stream runs its own admission, and applying in one does not enter you into another. You have to apply separately, on the portal belonging to the stream you want.

The timetables differ too. Technical and madrasah admissions can run before or after the general one, so if you are considering both, watch both calendars.

Which route suits whom

The choice is about fit, not prestige. Each stream works for a different kind of student, and two years in the wrong one means two years fighting the subject matter.
