Dialogue Between a Shopkeeper and a Customer
Model dialogue between a customer and a shopkeeper about buying a shirt.
A customer asks about quality, price and exchange while buying shirts at a clothing shop.
A dialogue between Customer and Shopkeeper
Customer: Good afternoon. Do you have any good quality cotton shirts?
Shopkeeper: Certainly. What size and colour are you looking for?
Customer: Medium, and something light — white or sky blue.
Shopkeeper: Here are three. This one is full cotton and this one is a cotton blend.
Customer: They look similar to me. What is the difference?
Shopkeeper: The full cotton is cooler in summer but creases more. The blend keeps its shape better after washing.
Customer: I see. What is the price of the full cotton one?
Shopkeeper: That one carries a fixed price, sir. The tag is on the collar.
Customer: That is more than I expected. Could you not reduce it a little?
Shopkeeper: We do not bargain, but there is a discount on two shirts if you take both.
Customer: Let me try the white one first. Where is the trial room?
Shopkeeper: Just behind you, on the left.
Customer: It fits well. I will take this one, and the blue in the same size.
Shopkeeper: Very good. Shall I pack them together? The discount applies now.
Customer: Yes, please. And may I have the receipt in case I need to exchange one?
Shopkeeper: Of course. Exchange is allowed within seven days with the receipt. Thank you for coming.
Frequently Asked Questions
A request, a choice between options, a question about price or quality, a decision, and the practical close — packing, payment, receipt, exchange. Those five stages make the conversation complete, and leaving out the close is the usual omission.
Better not to. Prices date quickly and an invented figure adds nothing the examiner is looking for. Referring to a price tag, a fixed price or a discount lets you discuss cost without committing to a number.
Yes, and it makes the dialogue more natural — bargaining is ordinary in Bangladeshi markets. Having the shopkeeper decline politely but offer a two-item discount is a realistic resolution and gives the conversation a small turn.
