A dialogue between Nafis and Sakib
Nafis: Sakib, did you watch the match yesterday?
Sakib: Every ball. I have not been so nervous in a long time.
Nafis: Nor I. When we lost three wickets in the first ten overs I nearly switched it off.
Sakib: So did my father. He walked out of the room and listened from the veranda.
Nafis: And then that partnership. What did you make of it?
Sakib: Sensible batting, that is all. They stopped trying to hit and simply ran between the wickets for twenty overs.
Nafis: It looked dull at the time.
Sakib: It looked dull because it was working. Ninety runs without a risk changed the whole innings.
Nafis: The last five overs made up for it, though.
Sakib: They did. And the fielding at the end was the best I have seen from us.
Nafis: Do you think we can win the series?
Sakib: If the batting holds. Our bowling has never been the problem; getting a total on the board has.
Nafis: The next match is on Friday. Shall we watch it together?
Sakib: Come to my house at two. And bring your own nerves; I have none left.
Frequently Asked Questions
Write about the shape of a match rather than statistics: early wickets, a partnership that steadied the innings, a burst at the end, good fielding. Those are things any viewer notices, and they avoid inventing scores that will not stand scrutiny.
Better not to. Named players date the dialogue and risk factual errors, and the question is not testing your knowledge of a squad. Referring to "the partnership" and "our bowling" keeps it safe and still specific.
Disagreement and reaction. One speaker finding the slow batting dull and the other explaining why it worked gives the dialogue a real exchange of views, which is much better than two people agreeing that the match was exciting.
