Application for a Half Holiday
Model application to the headmaster asking for a half holiday for a school cricket final.
A short group application asking for classes to be suspended after the third period for a district final.
How to write it
- Give the reason first and the request second. A half holiday is granted for an occasion, so the occasion is what the application must establish.
- Name the exact date and say which half of the day you are asking to be free. "A half holiday" without a date cannot be acted on.
- Mention that the missed lessons will be made up, if that is possible — it removes the headmaster's main objection.
- Keep it short. A half-holiday application is the shortest of this kind; three sentences of body is enough.

Sir
With due respect, we the students of your school beg to state that our school cricket team will play the final of the inter-school tournament at the district stadium on Thursday, 11 September, at two in the afternoon. Our team has reached the final for the first time in nine years, and the whole school wishes to attend and support it.
The match cannot be moved, as the schedule is fixed by the district sports association. We would therefore be grateful if classes were suspended after the third period on that day so that students and teachers may go to the ground together. We are willing to attend an extra class on the following Saturday to make up the lessons we shall miss.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to grant us a half holiday on 11 September and oblige thereby.
