A first serious acquaintance with the constitution and the economy.

Class 8 Bangladesh and Global Studies Book

বাংলায় পড়তে চাও? দেখো: অষ্টম শ্রেণির বাংলাদেশ ও বিশ্বপরিচয় বই

In class 8 this book changes character: story and description give way to structure and system — what a constitution is, how a state runs, how an economy works. Those are the sections that return, deeper, in classes 9 and 10.

How to read the constitution part

The constitution section is rules and structure, so reading it like a story leaves nothing behind. Build a table instead: what is in each part, which are the fundamental rights, how many organs of state there are and what each does. Built once, that table serves you in classes 9 and 10 as well, because more detail is added onto the same frame.

In the economy part, concepts not numbers

The statistics in the economy chapters are as of the book’s printing and change every year, so memorising them is pointless. What is to be understood rather than memorised are the concepts — production, distribution, demand, the use of resources. With the concepts you can look a figure up at any time; with a memorised figure and no concept, you have nothing.

How to use this book

  1. Reduce the constitution’s structure to one table.
  2. Find a local example for each economic concept.
  3. Lay the historical events out in sequence.
  4. Do not memorise statistics — understand the concepts.
