A structure that works

Opening — what the topic is and why it matters, in two sentences.
Context — the present position, briefly.
The argument — two or three points, each with one example.
The other side — one paragraph on limits or risks.
Close — a recommendation or a conclusion.

Living inside the word limit

Overrunning the limit is the commonest failure here, and the cause is nearly always the same — starting to write without a plan. Spend two minutes noting the points in the margin and deciding roughly how many sentences each gets. The piece then stays balanced and the closing does not collapse in a rush.
