Most candidates take viva preparation to mean rehearsing answers. In fact it is the practical side — documents, punctuality, presentation — where more of them slip, precisely because nobody discusses it.

The document checklist

• All certificates and mark sheets, originals and copies.
• National ID and birth registration.
• The admit card and the application acknowledgement.
• Recent passport-size photographs.
• Quota documents, where applicable.
• Experience certificates, if you have them.

What to do the day before

1. Arrange the documents in a file, in order.
2. Check the venue and the route in advance.
3. Get the clothes ready the night before.
4. Read through your current-affairs notes once.
5. Sleep enough — a tired face does not read well.

From entering the room to leaving it

Enter after asking permission, greet the board, and sit only when invited. Sit straight, keep your hands still, and look at whoever is asking as you answer. On leaving, thank them and go out calmly — hurrying out leaves an unsettled impression at the last moment.

Dress and presentation

Dress formally, cleanly and comfortably — not in something that will make you self-conscious, because discomfort shows on the face. Avoid heavy ornament and bright colour. Banking is a job done in front of customers, so the board is quietly picturing you across a counter — choose with that picture in mind.
