When the first attempt does not go to plan, many students consider a “second time”. There is a hard truth to know first: not every university allows a second attempt, and several of those that do deduct marks.
Where a second attempt is possible

Second-attempt rules are among the most frequently changed in Bangladesh — permitted one year, withdrawn the next. Before deciding, the current year’s circular is the only reliable source.
The mark deduction
Sitting the medical test a second time means a fixed number of marks is deducted from your final score. The amount has differed between years, so confirm it in the circular before applying.
The practical arithmetic: to make up a deduction you must do markedly better than last time. Doing only slightly better leaves you exactly where you were.
Questions to ask before committing to a gap year
- Can you identify subject by subject exactly where you lost marks last time?
- Is that weakness realistically fixable in a year, or is it a foundational gap?
- Does your target university even accept a second application?
- Are you prepared for the cost of a lost year — time, money and pressure?
- Could you enrol somewhere — a private university, National University, a diploma — and prepare alongside it?
The safest route is to enrol somewhere first and then prepare for a second attempt. That way a year is never wholly lost, and the pressure is far lower.
