Dialogue About Social Media Addiction

Model dialogue between two friends who check their screen time and are shocked.

Two friends compare screen time and discuss practical ways to reduce it.

A dialogue between Ariful and Nadim

Ariful: Nadim, do you know how much time you spend on your phone each day?

Nadim: An hour, perhaps? Two at most.

Ariful: Check the screen time in your settings. I thought the same and it said five and a half.

Nadim: Five and a half hours? That cannot be right.

Ariful: It is right. It comes in three-minute pieces all day, so it never feels like anything.

Nadim: Mine says four hours and forty minutes. I am genuinely shocked.

Ariful: That is a whole revision session, every day.

Nadim: But is it addiction, or just a habit? People use the word loosely.

Ariful: The apps are designed to be hard to leave. That is not an accident; it is the business model.

Nadim: What have you done about it?

Ariful: I moved the apps off my first screen and I keep the phone in another room while I study. Both help more than deciding to use it less.

Nadim: Deciding has never worked for me.

Ariful: It does not work for anyone. Change what is within reach and the decision stops being needed.

Nadim: I will try the other room tonight. And I will tell you my screen time on Sunday.
