Dialogue About First Aid
Model dialogue between two friends about basic first aid after an accident at school.
One friend explains basic first aid for cuts, burns and fainting after an accident in the workshop.
A dialogue between Riyad and Sabbir
Riyad: Sabbir, a boy cut his hand badly in the workshop today and nobody knew what to do.
Sabbir: What happened in the end?
Riyad: Someone poured water on it and someone else went to find a teacher. It took ten minutes.
Sabbir: Ten minutes is a long time for a bleeding wound. Direct pressure with a clean cloth is the first thing.
Riyad: Just pressure? Nothing on it?
Sabbir: Pressure first, and keep it raised if you can. Ointments and cotton wool come later, and never a tourniquet.
Riyad: Where did you learn this?
Sabbir: A scout first-aid course, two summers ago. It was three days and I have used it twice since.
Riyad: What else did they teach?
Sabbir: Burns — cool running water for twenty minutes, and no ice and no toothpaste. Half the country believes in toothpaste.
Riyad: My grandmother certainly does.
Sabbir: And for a faint, lay the person flat and raise the legs. Do not crowd round them, which is what everybody does.
Riyad: Our college has no first-aid box that I know of.
Sabbir: Then that is worth an application to the principal. I will help you write it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Well-established basics only: direct pressure on a bleeding wound, cool running water for burns, laying a fainting person flat with the legs raised. Avoid anything involving medicines, dosages or techniques that need training, such as CPR described step by step.
Because the common mistakes are the useful content. Ice or toothpaste on a burn, a tourniquet on a cut, a crowd round someone who has fainted — naming these gives the dialogue real information that most scripts do not have.
With an action: an application for a first-aid box, or a request for a training session. It connects the conversation to something the speakers can do and links naturally to the application-writing question.
