Application for Permission for an Industrial Visit
Model application to the principal for a one-day industrial visit tied to the syllabus.
An application linking the visit to a syllabus chapter and settling transport, cost and consent.
How to write it
- Name the place, the date and the connection to the syllabus. An industrial visit must be educational, and the application has to establish that first.
- Say how many students, from which class, and how many teachers would accompany them.
- Address transport, cost and safety explicitly. These are the three grounds on which such a request is refused.
- Mention whether the establishment has already been approached, and whether it is willing.

Subject: Application for permission for an industrial visit to a textile mill.
Sir
With due respect, we the students of the second year, science group, beg to state that our syllabus for the current year covers industrial processes and their environmental effects, but we have never seen a factory in operation. A visit would make the chapter on dyeing and effluent treatment far more intelligible than any description in a textbook.
We therefore request permission for a one-day industrial visit to a textile mill in the Konabari area on Thursday, 16 October. Forty-two students of our group would attend, accompanied by two teachers of the chemistry department. We have written to the mill's administration, who have informed us verbally that a group may be received on a working Thursday if the request comes through the college. The students will bear the cost of the bus, which we estimate at three hundred taka each, and every student will bring a written consent from a guardian before the date.
We, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to grant us permission for this visit and to forward a formal request to the mill, and oblige thereby.
I remain,
Sir,
Your obedient student,
Shahriar Kabir

Frequently Asked Questions
A study tour is largely recreational with an educational element; an industrial visit is the reverse, and the application must tie it to a specific chapter of the syllabus. Naming the topic — dyeing and effluent treatment — is what distinguishes the two requests.
Transport, cost and safety. Saying who pays, who accompanies the group and that guardians' consent will be collected removes all three before they are raised, which is the difference between a request granted and one referred to a meeting.
Yes, and be honest about how far it has gone. Saying that the mill has agreed verbally but wants the request to come through the college is accurate, useful, and tells the principal exactly what action is needed from him.
