Application for a Monthly Stipend
Model application to the headmaster for a monthly stipend from the school fund.
An application setting out academic standing and family circumstances in support of a stipend.
How to write it
- State your academic standing early — your class, your last result, your position. A stipend is awarded on merit as well as need, and the merit part must be visible.
- Describe the financial situation plainly and without dramatising it. One or two factual sentences about the family's circumstances are more effective than a long account of hardship.
- Say exactly what the stipend would make possible: continuing in school, buying books, paying the examination fee.
- Mention any supporting document you can attach, and offer to provide more if required.

Subject: Application for a monthly stipend.
Sir
With due respect, I beg to state that I am a student of Class IX, Section A, of your school, bearing roll number 12. I stood second in my class in the annual examination last year and have never been absent without leave.
My father was a day labourer and has been unable to work since an accident last year, and my mother supports the family of five by sewing at home. Our monthly income is now very small and irregular. My elder brother has already left school to work, and I am afraid that my own education may end the same way. A stipend would allow me to continue my studies, buy the books I need for the coming year and pay the registration fee that falls due in November. I am enclosing a copy of my last result sheet and can produce a certificate from the union parishad regarding my family's income if required.
I, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to grant me a monthly stipend from the school fund and oblige thereby.
I remain,
Sir,
Your obedient student,
Md. Jubair Hossain
Class IX, Section A, Roll 12
Frequently Asked Questions
State the facts in one or two plain sentences — what the parents do, what has changed, how many people depend on the income. A restrained account is more credible than an emotional one, and headmasters read a great many of these.
Because a stipend is usually awarded on merit and need together. Naming your class position and your attendance shows you are the kind of student the fund exists to keep in school, which is the argument the application actually has to make.
Yes. Mentioning an enclosed result sheet and offering an income certificate from the union parishad shows that the claim can be checked, and it saves the school from having to ask. Never claim a document you have not described.
