Application for a First-Aid Box

A group application opening with an accident and asking for a box, a keeper and a short training session.

How to write it

• Open with an incident. A first-aid request is always strongest when something has already gone wrong and nothing was available.
• Say what is currently kept, if anything, and where. Often the answer is that a box exists but is empty or locked in an office nobody can reach.
• List what the box should contain in general terms — dressings, antiseptic, bandages — without prescribing medicines.
• Ask also for someone to be responsible for it. A box with no keeper is empty within a term.

Subject: Application for a first-aid box in the school.

Sir

With due respect, we the students of your school beg to state that a student of Class VIII cut his hand on a broken window in the workshop last Tuesday, and nothing was available to treat it. The wound bled for nearly ten minutes while a teacher was found and a rickshaw was called, and the only cloth used was a handkerchief lent by a classmate.

There is, we are told, a first-aid box in the office, but it is kept locked and was found to contain only an empty bottle. We request that a properly stocked first-aid box be provided and kept in the teachers' common room, which is open throughout the day, containing clean dressings, bandages, antiseptic, cotton and adhesive tape. We further request that one teacher be made responsible for checking and refilling it each month, and that a short first-aid session be arranged for the class captains, as several of us would then be able to help before a teacher arrives.

We, therefore, pray and hope that you would be kind enough to arrange a first-aid box for the school and oblige thereby.
